A man is fighting for life after he was hit by a car in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Victoria Police allege the driver of the car did not stop at the scene and drove off in a damaged vehicle, before he was arrested less than a kilometre from the incident later on the morning.
Police said the injured man, a 23-year-old from Narre Warren, was sitting in the middle of the road when he was hit by the sedan on Boronia Rd, near Lewis road, in the suburb of Bayswater at approximately 3:10am.
They said a man was then arrested a man on Jacobus Walk in the neighbouring suburb of Ferntree Gully, after receiving a report that a person was sleeping in a damaged car.
The 28-year-old Bayswater man is assisting police with their investigation.
Detectives would like to speak to anyone who saw a blue XR6 sedan travelling in the area prior to the collision.
Also on the weekend, police announced they had charged two people after the death of a man in Chadstone earlier in the week.
A man’s body was found on Railway Pde, Chadstone, on Friday afternoon, after what police allege was an “incident” in the same suburb earlier in the week.
A 36-year-old woman and 35-year-old man have been charged with murder.
