A devastating incident occurred as a woman tragically fell 1,000 feet to her death after slipping off the edge of a cliff while hiking with three friends on a mountain in Italy.

The young woman, known as Maria Cristina Masocco and a resident of Feltre, was hiking on Sunday, Nov. 20, along with three friends in the Dolomites, a mountain range that measures nearly 11,000 feet tall.

Reports indicate that they were walking single file along a ledge through a pass when the young woman slipped and fell, screaming, into a ravine and out of sight.

The tragic incident took place around 4 p.m.

Viviana Fusaro, the mayor of Feltre, Belluno, located in the region of Veneto where the accident occurred, expressed deep sorrow, saying, “The news of the tragic death of the young Maria Cristina Masocco, which occurred in the mountains this afternoon, deeply affects us.”

Her hiking companions promptly contacted emergency services, who swiftly dispatched a rescue helicopter to the scene.

Unfortunately, by the time they reached Masocco, she had already succumbed to her injuries.

Movingly, Mayor Fusaro remarked, “In these moments, no words can ease the private suffering of the mother, younger sister, and friends. I want to convey to them the heartfelt support of the entire community, standing together in solidarity with their immense grief.”
