George Evans Obituary, Montgomery AL, In Loving Memory Of George Evans

George Evans Obituary, Death –It is with heavy hearts that the family of George Rawling Evans, 53, announces his passing on January 11, 2023, after a courageous battle against multiple myeloma. George, a lifelong Charlestonian who cherished Wadmalaw Island, left an indelible mark on the lives of those who knew him. Born and raised in Charleston, George was a proud graduate of Christ School (Arden) and the University of South Carolina. His love for the city and its surroundings was evident in every aspect of his life. In recent years, he found solace and joy on Wadmalaw Island, his favorite place on earth.

George’s legacy extends beyond his immediate family. He is survived by his loving wife, Laura (Johnson), his parents, George and Mary Porcher Evans, his sister, Caroline Johnson (Harry), and an extensive and affectionate extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins, in-laws, a niece, two nephews, and godchildren. Professionally, George was the owner of Appraisal Group of Charleston, a residential appraisal firm. Despite his humorous weekly promise to “never play again,” George was a passionate golfer who reveled in weekend rounds at the Muni with the Dream Team. His enthusiasm extended to Gamecock football, and he could often be found cheering them on, though his loyalty was tested each season.

George’s interests were diverse, from quoting entire episodes of The Andy Griffith Show to identifying marine life and birds while fishing on the Leadenwah, the Bohicket, and the North Edisto. He believed life was incomplete without dogs, and his love for them was a constant throughout his lifetime. To know George was to love him. His infectious laugh, unwavering devotion to family and friends, and a genuinely generous spirit left an enduring impact on everyone he encountered. George had a unique ability to connect with people, making friends wherever he went.

A casual gathering to celebrate George’s life will take place on Saturday, January 28, 2023, from 11:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. at the Sea Island Yacht Club in Rockville, South Carolina. Due to limited parking, carpooling is encouraged. At a later date, a private graveside service will be held at the St. Philips Church cemetery. In this difficult time, the family finds solace in the cherished memories of George and the profound impact he had on the lives of those fortunate enough to know him. May he rest in peace.
